Yozo Yamamoto was born in Honomu, Hawaii. In 1937 he graduated from McKinley High School in Honolulu and then worked in his father’s ice factory delivering ice to customers. He volunteered and joined the army in March 1941. Yamamoto played baseball and football during the period before the battalion left for Europe. His nicknames were Rocky and Kokomo.
Awarded two Purple Hearts, he was wounded in the forehead and the second time in his leg.
