ROTC Support
To encourage excellence in the Reserve Officers Training Corps at the University of Hawaii and in local high schools, each year the Club awarded Perpetual Best Company plaques and individual cadet trophies.
Educational Opportunities
Club members formed a “Speakers Bureau” to provide primary resources to students studying history. The students, ranging from elementary grades to college-level, learned from eye-witnesses to the events of World War II. Veterans participated in a weekly radio talk show and oral history projects. The Club also supported the publications of “Ambassadors In Arms” by Thomas Murphy and “Remembrances,” which chronicled the battalion’s history. A Scholarship Fund was created.
Docents at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl)
In 1991, Club members and their spouses initiated a program to staff the Information Center at Punchbowl on Saturdays, providing visitors assistance with location of grave sites and historical information on a day when the main office is closed. This valuable assistance continues today, with veterans, spouses, and increasingly, descendants from both the 100th and 442nd veterans clubs participating in this program.
